Early career

Professional career
In February 2004, Ding was awarded a wildcard entry to the Masters in London, where, in the first round, he defeated the then world no. 16-ranked player, Joe Perry,[2] before narrowly losing 6-5 in the second round to experienced top player Stephen Lee after holding a 2-5 lead over him.[3] His performance favourably impressed many commentators, who since then rated him a likely future World Champion.
In March 2005, he celebrated his 18th birthday by reaching the final of the China Open in Beijing, along the way defeating world top-16 ranked players Peter Ebdon, Marco Fu and Ken Doherty. In that final he played against then world no.-3-ranked Stephen Hendry, whom he beat by 9 frames to 5, to score his first ranking tournament win.
In December 2005, he beat another crop of (now former) world top-16 players, namely Jimmy White, the late Paul Hunter and Joe Perry once more on his way to reaching the final of another major tournament, the UK Championship at the Barbican Centre in York. This time he met the resurgent snooker legend Steve Davis in the final, and defeated him by ten frames to six, in doing so becoming the first player from outside Britain or Ireland to win that particular title. Following this victory, his world ranking was provisionally raised from 60 (62 at the start of the season) to 31. At the end of the season, he was ranked 27th. This means that now he does not have to pre-qualify for various tournaments, and only has to win one match to reach the World Championships in Sheffield.
On 19 August, 2006, he beat Stephen Lee 6-1, and reached the final of the Northern Ireland Trophy, meeting Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final the following day. He beat O'Sullivan 9-6 to claim his third ranking tournament win,[4] becoming only the third person ever to do so before his twentieth birthday,[4] after O'Sullivan and John Higgins.[4] This win pushed his provisional world ranking position up to fifth.
In December 2006, he won three gold medals at the Asian Games, winning the Single, Double and Team Snooker competitions. Ding made a sensational start to the 2006/07 season by becoming the youngest player ever to win three ranking titles, and the only one other than John Higgins to do so before his 20th birthday.
He achieved that feat at the Northern Ireland Trophy in Belfast, beating Paul Davies, Anthony Hamilton, John Higgins, Ken Doherty and Stephen Lee to reach the final then coming from 3-1 down to beat Ronnie O’Sullivan 9-6 in the final.

Ding was not able to further bolster his tally of titles, giving up his Maplin UK Championship crown when he lost to practice partner Peter Ebdon in the quarter-finals. There was some mitigation for that loss, however, as Ding was suffering from fatigue having recently returned from the Asian Games in Qatar, clutching a haul of three gold medals for the individual, doubles and team disciplines.
He went on to reach the final of the SAGA Insurance Masters at Wembley Arena, scoring a 6-2 win over Stephen Hendry in the semi-finals which prompted the snooker legend to describe him as the best talent to emerge in the past decade. "If he’s going to keep playing like that he’ll be around the top four players for the next 10 to 15 years," Hendry said.
Again Ding faced his boyhood idol O’Sullivan in the final but this time the Rocket powered to a 10-3 success, leaving Ding visibly upset. He was comforted by high praise from O’Sullivan who said: "If he carries on improving and gets a few more bits to his game he will be a multiple World Champion. Tennis has Federer, golf has Tiger Woods, Ding could do the same to snooker."
Ding finished the season at the Crucible after qualifying for the final stages of the 888.com World Snooker Championship for the first time in his career but was unfortunate to draw O’Sullivan in the first round and fell to a 10-2 defeat. Nevertheless, he gained a top 16 ranking for the first time, climbing to No 9.
Ding has become one of China’s most famous sportsmen, often drawing viewing figures on CCTV5 in excess of 100million.

"This gives me great joy," said Ding. "This is the second most important ranking tournament and I felt more pressure than I did when I won in China. In England most people wanted Steve Davis to win while in China 99 percent of the support was for me. However, there were still lots of people who appreciated how the way I played."
Ding won the World under-21 Championship at the age of 15, beating David John 11-9 in the final in Latvia.

出生缙云丁锦辉的家在浙江缙云的一个小村子里面，小丁的家庭很普通。除了他，全家没有一个人搞体育。不过一出生，丁锦辉就把护士吓了一跳。尽管出生的时候只有八斤，但却要比其他小孩长出一大截来，这让医生护士都吃惊不已。

丁锦辉刚到浙江省体校的第一年就代表省少年队参加了在福建莆田举行的全国少年比赛。由于第一次参加全国大赛，丁锦辉在场上显得非常紧张。“在球场上，死也要死得轰轰烈烈，要像个战士一样！”下场之后，教练的呵斥对于当时的丁锦辉就是一声惊雷。这次全国比赛，这句话深深地烙进了丁锦辉的心中。此后，丁锦辉一场比一场打得好，一场比一场打得狠，“打球没有不想赢的道理，要想赢得比赛只有拼。”

05-06赛季临近结束时，万马二队与临海回浦中学打了一场训练赛，那场比赛，一登场丁锦辉“打起球来不要命”的风格就给当时刚上任的万马总教练蒋兴权留下了深刻的印象。而接下来发生的一切，都成了自然而然，众所皆知。
樱木花丁“在球场上，死也要死得轰轰烈烈，要像个战士一样！”看过丁锦辉比赛的人都有同一个印象——“拼”。本届世锦赛，虽然中国男篮最终未能杀入八强，但首次代表国家队征战世界大赛的丁锦辉，还是用实际行动赢得了球迷的尊重和信任。
外表冷峻的丁锦辉，一笑起来就如同动画片里的卡通人物，因此在圈中就有了“樱木花丁”的称号。就在国家队公布名单2天前，浙江稠州俱乐部副总周臻仪女士还表示:“丁锦辉因为受伤，土耳其世锦赛肯定无法上场。”但是在一天后中国篮协宣布的最终12人大名单中，丁锦辉的名字赫然在列。
